VB Spine to Acquire Augmedics’ AR Spine Platform
VB Spine is set to strengthen its spine visualisation portfolio by acquiring exclusive rights to the Xvision Spine System from Augmedics. The platform provides augmented reality (AR) navigation and enhanced intraoperative guidance for surgeons by overlaying key information onto the surgical field.
The system enables visualisation of patient anatomy beneath the skin and tissues, permitting surgeons to view key structures throughout the operating procedures. It is intended to support accurate identification of anatomical landmarks across a range of spine interventions, including open, minimally invasive, and percutaneous techniques.
Augmedics received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for a next-generation AR headset for the platform in November 2025. The updated hardware is designed to support continued clinical use and system performance within the Xvision ecosystem.
The transaction remains subject to regulatory clearances, final documentation, and customary closing requirements, with completion expected in the coming weeks.
The agreement forms part of a series of portfolio expansions by VB Spine. In the previous year, the company acquired Stryker’s spinal implants business and added a Stryker manufacturing facility in France. In January, it also completed the acquisition of artificial intelligence-enabled surgical visualisation technology from Robotron Surgical.
Following the transaction, the Xvision platform is expected to be integrated with VB Spine’s existing implant and visualisation systems, enabling seamless workflow and improved surgical accuracy. The integration aims to provide surgeons with more comprehensive navigation capabilities by combining AR guidance with VB Spine’s current technologies. Augmedics, meanwhile, will continue to focus on developing its augmented reality capabilities and extending its technology into additional surgical applications.
